So, I Started a Blog… Now What?

I have been working in architecture for more than 20 years, and somewhere along the way, I got the idea that I should create something of my own. Not a building, not a project for a client, and not another assignment for school. Just something that I could work on because I wanted to. Something that would give me a place to put my ideas, share some of the work I have done, and explore a few thoughts that do not always have an obvious place in everyday life.

That is how this website started. It officially went live on October 09, 2026, and if I am honest, I did not have any elaborate plan for what it was supposed to become. I just wanted to build something, see what I could do with it, and figure out the rest along the way.

The more I thought about it, the more I realized that a website displaying my work could be more than just a portfolio. I spend a lot of time thinking about architecture, sustainability, design, and the way the built environment affects our lives. Between my professional experience, my ongoing education, and the things I read and research, there is usually something bouncing around in my head. I figured, why not give those thoughts a place to go?

So, here we are. I decided to add a blog.

I cannot promise that every post will be particularly insightful, perfectly organized, or even entirely focused. Sometimes I might have something specific I want to explore, and other times I might just need to work through an idea by putting it into words. There will be some rambling along the way, and I am sure I will look back at a few posts someday and wonder what exactly I was trying to say. But that’s part of the point. I want this to be a place where I can think aloud, try new things, and see what comes of it.

Stepping Outside My Comfort Zone

Part of the reason for starting this blog is to push myself outside my comfort zone. I have spent more than 20 years working in architecture, contributing to projects that shape the places where people live, learn, work, and receive care. Alongside my professional experience, I am continuing my education in environmental sustainability and exploring how the built environment can respond to the challenges we face today and those we will encounter in the future.

Throughout that time, I have developed my own thoughts, opinions, and perspectives on architecture and the direction of the profession. Some of those ideas have been shaped by experience, others by research and education, and still others by simply observing the world around me. I think there’s value in taking those ideas beyond the conversations we have at work or the papers we write for school and giving them a place to develop.

I also recognize that having experience in a field does not mean having all the answers. Architecture is constantly evolving, sustainability is an increasingly important part of the conversation, and there will always be innovative ideas to consider and old assumptions worth questioning. Writing seems like an effective way to explore those subjects more deliberately, challenge my own thinking, and learn something in the process.

I have a voice, and it is worth putting it out there. You might agree with what I have to say, or you might disagree entirely. Either way, there is value in having conversations about architecture, sustainability, and the impact our decisions have on the world around us.

Let Us See Where This Goes

I have no expectations that this blog will become particularly significant. It will turn into a regular writing habit. It will become a collection of thoughts and ideas that I can look back on for years from now. Maybe a few people will stumble across a post and find something that resonates with them. Or it will simply be a personal project that gives me something interesting to work on outside of my everyday responsibilities.

Whatever happens, I am looking forward to seeing where it goes.

So, if something here catches your attention, look around. Read a post, explore the projects in the gallery, and feel free to come back from time to time to see what is new. I will do my best to keep adding to it whenever I have something to say, something worth exploring, or even just an idea I cannot seem to get out of my head.

And if you happen to enjoy what you read, bookmark the site, and check back occasionally.

This is just the beginning. I have no idea where it will lead, but I figure there is only one way to find out.

Thanks for stopping by.
